Cambuskenneth Abbey was one of the more important Abbeys in Scotland, it was founded around 1140 by David I. Robert the Bruce held his parliament here in 1326 to confirm the succession of his son David II. The Abbey fell in to disuse during the reformation and was closed by 1559. Much of the stonework was removed and used for projects in Stirling Castle. The only part remaining is the bell tower following an extension restoration in 1859.
