Orchardton Tower
Orchardton Tower is unique in that it is the only round Tower House in Scotland. It was built by John Cairs in 1456. It is thought he may have benefited by the downfall of the might Black Douglas family in 1455. Having seized the Lordship of Galloway, King James II redistributed the lands, rewarding those who had been loyal supporters.
