Skara Brae, Orkney
A stone built neolithic settlement on the coast of the Sandwick area of mainland Orkney.  First discover in 1850 after a storm but not fully investigated until1924.  It is the best preserved example of a Neolithic settlement in Europe.  The site is now in the care of Historic Environment Scotland and is open to visitors.
