The Ilushin II-76 first entered service in 1974 with the Soviet Union as a strategic transport aircraft capable of lifting up to 40 tons. It has the capability of using unpaved runways so has seen use widely in disaster recovery around the world. New varients remain in production today with over 900 having been produced. It is also used commercialy for oversided loads.
