Imperial Japanese Navy Kaiten Torpedo, Tokyo, 1985
The Kaiten was a manned torpedo. It could be launched from a submarine or surface ship. Its construction in 1944 was a sign of desperation by the Japanese High Command. Early designs allowed the pilot to escape after the final acceleration towards the target but there is no record of any pilot ever doing so.
