The principal Gate, Fort George
To get to this point you would already have had to defeat considerable defences in front of it.  The ditch wasn't water filled, it didn't need to be, anyone down there is wide open to canon and musket fire from the walls above.  These state of the art defences were never tested, by the time the fort was completed the threat of any further Jacobite rebellion had receded.
