Often portrayed as English against Scots the reality was different. The Jabotites side had Highlanders, Lowlanders, French, Irish and even a detachment of English from the Manchester regiment. The Government side was mainly English but supported by Lowland Scots, Highlanders, an Ulster regiment, Germans and Austrians. The Government had a force of 8,000 and the Jacobites around 7,000. In less than an hour over 1500 Jacobites lay dead or wounded on the field after a decisive victory for the govt. forces.
