David Hamilton, architect of Dunlop House, was born in Glasgow in 1768.  He trained as a stone mason before deciding to become an architect.  In his life he designed many prominent buildings and houses throughout Scotland.  In 1806 he designed the Nelson Monument on Glasgow Green, the first such monument to celebrate Nelson's many victories.
