The Mill Village of New Lanark was built in 1776 by David Dale and now restored as a museum showing life at the time. Dale's Son in Law, Robert Owen, took over the Mill early in the 19th century. He was a Welsh Philanthropist and social reformer who set New Lanark as a standard as to how workers should be treated, giving them good housing and schools for their children.
