Inside the Caponier at Craignethan Castle.
Craignethan Castle’s defences include a caponier, a stone vaulted artillery chamber which is rare in Britain. This lies inside the deep ditch that divides the tower house from the rest of the castle. Any attempt to cross the ditch would have been met by artillery fire from the holes in this vaulted tunnel.
