The Glen Cinema Disaster Memorial, Hawkhead Cemetery
This tragedy happened on 31st December 1929 when the Glen Cinema was packed with up to 1000 children for an afternoon film show. Smoke start to fill the auditorium and in the panic 70 children died in the crush trying to get out. What is worse is that there was no fire, a freshly shown film had started to smoke when put back in its can. The other three sides of the momorial has all the names of the Children wo were victims.
