RAF Kinloss, Moray
Opened in April 1939 as a training establishment during WWII, construction was started in 1938 from requisitioned farm land. After the war it was used by coastal command and later was host to the Nimrod Maritime patrol aircraft. The photo shows an MR2 variant, taken in 2009. In 2010 these aircraft were retired and the MRA4 replacement was cancelled leaving Kinloss with no role to play. Kinloss has now ceased flying operations and will be closed as an RAF base in 2013.
