Admiralty Hydro Ballistic Research Establishment, Glen Fruin
Tucked away behind trees at the end of Glen Fruin is what became the Hydro Ballistic Research Establishment in 1948. It was built under secrecy during the second world war to investigate the effects of dropping munitions, including the famous dam buster 'bouncing bomb', in to water. It included a huge tank of water with thick glass on one side where the effects could be seen. Today this would presumably be done by computer modelling. The buildings still seem occupied today but may be for another use now
