Shieldaig viewed from above
The village of Shieldaig was established in 1800 as a fishing community, grants were given by the admiralty to encourage people to move here and at the same time it built up a reserve of seamen for the Napoleonic war. When that war ended there was enough of a living to be made out of fishing that people stayed. Today the village is by-passed and can be easily missed but is well worth a minor detour.
