The famous Applecross road can be seen on the right hand side of the picture as it climbs to the 2053ft summit. The road was built between 1825 and 1826 by a Mr MacKenzie of Applecross, entirely at his own expense. He was a roads contractor and was involved in the construction of many of the 'parliamentary' roads in the area at the time.
