Built as part of the Qarriers village by William Quarrier because he believed that the children at the orphanage not only should be given a good education but should be brought with a Christian influence. Each of the 40 'homes' around the village were sponsered by different people who could influence the design when they were built. The layout of the village is very different from any other typical planned town in Scotland and if anything has more of an 'English' feel to it.
