Erskine Bridge, South Tower
One reason it took until 1971 to replace the Erskine Ferry with a bridge was the requirement for the road deck to be 180ft above high tide level to allow ships such as the QEII to pass down from the upper Clyde ship yards. The tower is 125ft above the road deck and about 180ft from the ground up to the road.
