Spitfire P7540, Dumfries & Galloway Aviation Museum
This Aircraft was lost in 1941 during a training flight from RAF Ayr. The Czech Pilot crashed the aircraft on Loch Doon. A search at the time failed to find either the aircraft or the Pilot. The search was not resumed again until 1977 but even then it took until 1982 to finally find and recover the wreck. The aircraft has been restored for display and is not airworthy.
