This unique beam engine probably dates from the early 19th century. It was designed to pump water from the working of the 'Margaret' or 'Straightsep' vien of lead ore that runs below this spot. A bucket on the right continually filled and emptied raising and lowering the pivot, at the other end was a pump rod which raised water from the mine up the open shaft. Map location.
