In the 1930's a Dam was built that raised the water level of Loch Doon by nearly 30ft as part of The Galloway Hydro scheme. As a result the water levels can vary considerably. On the far shore on the left hand side the remains of a tramway can be seen. This was constructed during WWI when Loch Doon was used as an Aerial gunnery training area. Map location.
