The former Sea Plane slipway at Largs
As you pass the Life Boat station at Largs you would hardly give this slipway a second glance. It was built in 1942 by Scottish Aviation for the purpose of bringing Catalina Sea Planes out of the water for servicing across the road on what is now the Barrfields putting green. By the summer of 1944 as many as 18 Catalinas, 2 Coronados and 2 Mariners were in Largs Bay. In total some 300 Catalinas were serviced here at Largs during the war.
