The Trident Submarine Jetties and Ship-lift at Faslane Base, Gareloch
On the right hand side of the ship lift building there are 3 jetties specifically for the Vanguard class Trident Submarines of the Royal Navy. Two can be seen berthed here. One is always on patrol, one is in maintenance/refit and the remaining two are on stand-by. The ship-lift is capable of lifting a 16,000 ton Vanguard submarine in "operational" condition completely out of the water for maintenance. The floating boom around the area is an attempt to stop protestors gaining access to the secure area.
