Built for James IV around 1503 this is the largest medieval banqueting hall ever built in Scotland. This view is looking towards the Dias where the King and Queen would have sat. In the 1800s the hall was used as soldiers barracks. It wasn't until the military left the castle in 1964 that restoration could begin. It took 35 years to complete the work. requiring the use of 350 oak trees to rebuild the hammerbeam roof and 780 tonnes of stone.
