SS Rifle, Scottish Maritime Museum, Irvine
The remains of a rare example of a small pre-fabricated screw steamer. Purchased by Locheil estate in the 1860s for use on Loch Arkaig to ferry goods and passengers between the communities around the loch. The boat was laid up in the 1930s but while awaiting being scrapped she sank. During the war the army used explosive to remove the wreck from the pier and it wasn't until 1990 she was finally raised, its a wonder so much is still remains.
