HMS Hood shipyard model, Riverside Museum, Glasgow

The actual shipyard model of HMS Hood that was made by John Brown's when they built the ship at their Clydebank yard. Commissioned in 1920 she was the largest warship afloat for the following 20 years and known affectionately as the "Mighty Hood". 5000 tons of armour was added as a result of lessons learnt at Jutland, however, the navy knew that her deck armour was ineffective against new delayed fuse shells and when faced with the Bismark in 1941 this proved fatal with the loss of all but 3 of the crew.
