Built in 1858 as housing, the terrace was described as "the finest range of buildings in Great Britain" at the time. The Grosvener opened in No 1 and No 2 in 1938 in time for the Empire Exhibition held in Glasgow on that year. In the 1970's neighbouring houses were bought to expand the Hotel but in 1978 during a fire fighters strike it was destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt and re-opened in 1982.
