During the dark days of 1941 to 1943 Loch Ewe was the assembly point for convoys taking equipment north to Murmansk to aid our Soviet allies. The area was heavily defended with 6 inch naval guns and numerous anti-aircraft sites, there was also a submarine net across the end of the Loch. Apparently the guns were never fired in anger, possibly due to the area being so remote and at the extreme range of German aircraft. Map location.
