Mulberry Harbour Beetle, Garlieston Bay
One of the Mulberry 'Beetles' at Garlieston Bay. The harbour and village of Garlieston is in the background. Garlieston and nearby Rigg Bay was used for testing many parts of the D-Day harbour. The Beetles were used to support the roadway out the pier head. The large holes were for posts that would keep the Beetle in place but allow it to float with the tide.
