Fort George
Fort George represents the ultimate design of fortifications of its day. Built between 1748 and 1770 to subdue any future Jacobite risings after their defeat at Culloden in 1745. It would have been a formidable site in those days but by the time it was completed the political situation in Scotland had changed and it was never used in anger.
