The Peel of Lumphanan, Aberdeenshire

This earthwork castle dates from around the 11th and was built by the de Lundins family from Angus. The castle was enclosed by a wooden "Palacium" or Palisade, from which the Peel takes its name. It probably served as a secondary residence. Map location.
