Erected in 1912 in Elderslie to mark what is generally accpeted as the being the birth place of William Wallace. Archeological investigation of this site shows there to have been a significant fortified building in the 13/14th century that could have been the Wallace family home. The "Wallace" Yew tree to the right is at least 300 years old. 2005 marked the 500th anniversary of Wallace's execution in London in 1305.
