Arthurlee House, Barrhead

Built in 1870 by Gavin Ralston, it was later bought by Henry Dunlop, owner of the Levern Mill and enlarged to what it is today. Arthurlie estate was bought by Barrhead council in the 1930's for housing but retained the house and some of its grounds as a park. The House is used as a community centre today. Since this photo was taken an access ramp has been built at the front which has somewhat spoilt the character of the building. The house name is commonly miss-spelt as Arthurlie.

I just love all of your photo's and Arthurlee House has meant a lot to me throughout my life. Just one wee thing..the spelling is lee, not lie. East Renfrewshire have got it wrong on all of their notices. Thanks again for your wonderful images.
