The ruins of Sanquhar Castle
Built by the Crichton family in the 13th century. The part you see here is the most substantial bit still standing. All the usual culprits apparently visited the castle in its heydays, like Robert the Bruce, William Wallace, Edward I, Mary Queen of Scots and James VI. From the 17th century onwards it fell in to disrepair, the part you see here was partly restored in the late 18th century.
