The Carronade Gun, Shieldaig

In the 1800's herring smacks sailing from Shieldaig often had a gun fitted. Local legend says that this gun belonged to a fisherman by the name of George Leid, he had fallen out with local Minister, Donald McDonald, about keeping the Sabbath. One Sunday on returning from fishing he fired the gun at Shieldaig Island only for it to malfunction and blow off his arm. The muzzle of the gun is still missing.
