The tree lined drive up to Arthurlie House, Barrhead

Up until the 1930's Arthurlie House stood on its own in a large estate but at that time Barrhead Burgh Council bought the esate for housing, some of which can be seen on the left. Until the early 1960's the area where you see the newer housing was all fields. When I was a boy there were still lots of Rhododendron bushes in the grounds and the remains of some of the formal gardens. Map location.
