Ullapool sits on the north side of Loch Broom, another of Scotland's planned towns, designed by Thomas Telford and the British Fisheries Society in 1788. The ship at anchor is probably one of the Maritime & Coastgaurd Agency's emergency towing vessels that standby on the west coast incase any ships get into difficulty.
