The ruins of Elgin Cathedral
The Cathedral has gone through many phases of contsruction and demise since the first building was erected in 1224. It was enlarged after a fire in 1270 and then suffered another severe fire at the hands of the infamous 'Wolf of Badenoch', Alexander Stewart in 1390. After the reformation in 1560 the Cathedral fell into disrepair, the impressive central tower collapsed in the 17th century and it wasn't until the 19th century that the remains were stablised to leave what you see today.
