It is said that Mary Queen of Scots watched the battle of Langside from this hill on the 13th of May 1568. She had raised an army of 6,000 to escort her to Dumbarton Castle where she planned to win back her crown. But they were ambushed and defeated by Regent Morays army of only 4,000 strong. This is also the site of Cathcart castle, the ruins of which were demolished in the 1980's. Map location.
