English Electric F2A Lightning, Museum of Flight, East Fortune

The Lightning was a step change in performance when it was introduced into the RAF. It was, and still is, the only British designed and built mach 2 fighter to enter service with the RAF. XN776 entered service in 1963 as an F2 varient but was later updated to F2A, its last operational flight was in 1977 and in 1982 it was donated to the East fortune museum.
