Murray's Monument, Galloway

This impressive obolisk lies about 10 miles outside Newton Stewart. It was erected in 1835 in memory Alexander Murray who was raised as a Shepherd boy on the Galloway hills and became professor of Oriental languages at Edinburgh Universtory
