Newark Castle, Port Glasgow

Built in 1478 by George Maxwell as a tower with a walled enclosure. It has since been added to and the surrounding wall demolished. In recent times it was surounded by shipyards, those on the east side have now gone giving more open views of the Castle. In 1909 it was taken over by Historic Scotland. Map location.
