The QE2 you see here was significantly different from that launched at Clydebank in 1967. After continuing problems with the steam turbine Cunard decided in 1986 to give the QE2 a major refit during which the steam boilers and turbine were removed and replaced by desiel generators and electric propulsion. New propellors were also fitted at the same time and considerable modernisation of passenger accomodation took place too at a cost of one hundred million pounds.
